Soccer Practice Plans – Useful Tips

Just like any other game, soccer requires you to set goals in advance for your soccer practice sessions and you must keep revising these goals as you move on. Broadly, you can classify your soccer practice goals to achieve the following:

- Enabling the players improve their soccer skills that make them perform better

- Making sure that the players are at the peak of their physical form

- Helping them develop winning attitudes

Soccer Practice Plans

With soccer practice plans , the best part is that there are no set rules. You can quickly adapt, improvise, and keep the plans flexible. This gives you enough room to experiment as well. While you coach the young players, it is very important to ensure that they do not fall into the trap of winning or losing at an early age. It gets them into an unhealthy competitive mode when all they should be doing is simply enjoy the game. Till the time they start playing important games, they must focus on enjoying the experience rather than getting into the dynamics of winning and losing.

Design drills that give the players some objectives to achieve. This makes the drills more meaningful and also gives the players a sense of purpose. Also, ask the players turn by turn to demonstrate to the entire group. This will give them a chance to present their leadership skills in addition to the soccer abilities. But you must be careful as well to not present too many learning lessons all at once. It is best to take one point first and ensure that the players have understood and adapted to it and then get to the second one.

When you are coaching the kids, it is best not to deliver a lot of verbal instructions. A kid’s brain is more suited to capture visual impressions. So when you decide to teach them something, just do it yourself and they will imitate you. You can even involve a senior player to help you with these demonstrations.

Soccer Practice Plans – Tips

A few of the following tips might come in handy when you are planning a soccer practice session.

~ Keep the flexibility principle in mind and have several soccer practice games ready. If some do not give the desired results, you can eliminate them and move to the next. Flow with the training and you will get to know what is working best for the kids.

~ Ensure that for all or majority of the sessions, they have ample supply of balls. Also, they must do several activities using the ball like shooting, dribbling, hitting the ball to the wall etc. Do not limit the ground to restrict their movement and keep the flow free as far as possible.

~ For successful soccer coaching, it is important to obtain a good mix of both the individual as well as group activities. This makes them understand the importance of team work and camaraderie. It is natural for them to take some time in adjusting to group activities at first but that is fine. Do not rush the process. Help them understand the need to support each other in order to win matches.

Another fundamental aspect that coaches underrate is the importance of games in developing the skills of the kids as well as their stamina. More than anything else, games are a source of fun and cover up times when the kids may get bored doing repetitive drills. When involved in games, players are always eager and interested in the sessions and the attendance is also healthy. Bear in mind though, that the games must not be undertaken for the sake of playing alone. They must teach the kids something pertaining to soccer else they are useless.

Soccer Practice Tips

The second aspect of introducing games in your plans is the advantage of unlimited number of games that can be incorporated in training. So games are an enormous tool in your hands when it comes to developing interesting training sessions. Games are also instrumental in gaining a lot of good results in less time. The players get nice workouts and less fatigue. Moreover, games help create a real match-like condition which further teach the players to deal with pressure, anxiety, speed, and agility.

Lastly, you do not need a huge infrastructure or equipment to set up for the games. Just the basics such as balls, cones, grids, medical aid, water, and refreshments fill the need. And then, you do not need large fields or ready tracks for playing games. When the weather is unpleasant or otherwise not conducive for outdoor sessions, you can always shift indoors.

When you design soccer plans in accordance with the needs of the game, introduce the element of fun with games, and keep the sessions flexible, you stand to win a great deal of respect from your players. This is important since the players must look upon you as their role model and when they do so, they are sure to put up their best show and execute your plans to the best of their abilities.
