Coaching Heading In Soccer - Hit With The Right Part Of The Head

If you want your players to dominate the game in the air, it is very important for you to help them acquire good heading skills. However, coaching heading in soccer is not that easy as it sounds.

In fact, coaching soccer can be very painful in the beginning because heading the ball is not just all about kicking the ball with the head as you like.

You have to kick the ball with the right part of the head. If done properly, coach soccer training will not cause any pain, but you will definitely be able to achieve your objective.

How To Hit The Ball With The Head

Some novice coaches fear about coaching heading in soccer , as they think it may have some sort of brain damage in the young players. Well, there is nothing like that. Medical science rejects such misconceptions.

However, you must keep in mind the following things while you are teaching heading in football.

  • Accurate contact with the ball is essential. Therefore, make sure that the players are hitting the ball with their forehead area.
  • You can allow the players to use the top of their head to contact the ball in order to flick the football on from a long flighted pass or throw-in.
  • While practicing the heading skills, instruct your players to keep their eyes open and mouth shut - at least until impact.
  • The body position is also important here. Watch the players carefully while they practice heading in order to find out if the body is positioned in line correctly and if the eyes are open and fixed on the ball.
  • In order to direct the ball downwards, you should teach the players how to use the forehead area to hit the top-half of the ball.
  • As an expert soccer training coach, you should also demonstrate the players how to use the middle part of the forehead in order to achieve more direct power headers.
  • What is more, while you are coaching heading in soccer , you should note that a player might have to hit the ball with the head while he is in a stationary position.
  • The players can even use the side of the head to hit the ball in order to glance the heading.
  • You can also teach them how to use the successful co-ordination of different forces in order to generate more powerful heading.
