Social Skills In Soccer: Recreational Soccer And Making The Drills Fun!

Pure social skills in soccer and recreational soccer for the family is a fun way to get introduced to this wonderful game.

Soccer is a game, so you and all those interested in the game should have fun while playing, training for it and watching it as an audience.

As a coach, allow yourself to have a good time exploring and creating soccer drills, which are a bit different from traditional drills and include a good amount of fun in it.

It is a great way to get young people to love the game, and who knows you might even discover a great talent this way!

Make The Training Sessions More Exciting

Soccer is a game which is growing and developing in all spheres. Almost all youngsters want to play, learn and explore this game. Some want to learn just for fun while some are seriously thinking of a career in it.

Whatever the purpose, it is a game and games are meant to be played for enjoyment. Here are some tips of soccer fun ideas you could use while coaching your team:

•  Don't let the players stand in a line and wait for their turn as in case of regular drills. Instead, plan some fun activities and games which involve all of them at the same time.

•  Make a list of exciting games which will be interesting for all and will improve overall skills and techniques of each player.

•  Avoid delays in practice. For this arrive a bit early at the field, before everyone comes. Set up the field for the specific activity you have planned.

•  Encourage punctuality by telling your team that the two people who arrive last will have to pick up the cones, balls etc., after the session. Thus coming on time will become a challenge for them. You may not find this 'fun' element to be very practical at times, but do remember that if you present recreational soccer in a fun-way, you will have happy and energetic players.

Example Of Some Fun Drills

Some fun games and drill techniques that you can use for educational football are:

Freeze tag: It is a dribbling game where players have to keep a tight control on the ball and dribble it towards their team-mates.

2 goal dog fight: Very similar to actual soccer, players defend the goal closest to them and attack the opposite goal.

Snake game: A snake is formed in the middle; other players have to dribble the ball across the grid without touching the snake.

Other games are: 4 squares, Fire drills, kick-out, musical balls etc.

Apart from these soccer fun games, you may use your imagination to create more such games and activities. Just try to instill this feeling in the players that they are having fun while playing, as well as learning and improving upon basics.

When applying social skills in soccer, it's important to consider the comfort level of your team. Recreational soccer games and drills should be designed on the basis that they teach the players to play as a team, have a healthy competitive feeling and enjoy what they are doing.
