Coaching High School Soccer Is A Serious Business

Coaching high school soccer players can be a fulfilling but demanding career. If you love soccer, can play it well and can identify with kids, then it could be a viable option for you.

You could consider becoming a high school or a college soccer coach. There are certain things you need to be equipped with to do the job well. These are skill, patience, motivation and a sense of humor.

Being A Coach

As a high school or college soccer coach, you will have to motivate your players to perform. You have to maintain discipline at all times and conduct training football children sessions on a regular basis.

It is important to teach the kids to be patient. This is only possible by incorporating extensive running and passing drills during practice sessions. This also helps to build up their endurance levels. After all, they have to learn to be up and running for a 90 minute game.

The main skills to work on initially when coaching high school soccer are the dribbling and passing techniques. Once these skills are in place, you can make the kids practice their penalty kicks.

You also have to train your goalkeepers to move the ball down the field. Most of the time, you will find that goalkeepers are the ones who start an offensive attack after taking a defensive stand. So they have to be trained in both defensive as well as offensive play.

As a high school soccer coach, it is also your duty to ensure that the players maintain a certain level of academic achievement. If they fall behind in academics, they may not be eligible to play in the next season. You need to motivate them to perform on the field as well as in the classroom.

If you have any doubts about your coaching abilities or techniques, do not hesitate to get some advice. You could get advice from other experienced high school soccer coaches.

There are also several high school soccer handbooks that you could read to get some useful coaching tips. You could look for how to introduce innovative training methods and what you can do to make it more enjoyable for the kids.

If it's not fun, the kids will get bored very soon. You have to be able to motivate the team to play well.

Coaching college soccer and coaching high school soccer is almost the same. You need to be there for the players as their mentor and friend. They want to win and you have to show them the way.
