How To Develop Soccer Training Speed And Strength Program
There are several factors that you need to take into your careful consideration while you are developing a soccer training speed and strength program for your players. Football practice speed and strength in soccer is not just all about how fast you can run.
It is rather about how fast you can take decisions, run, dribble, tackle, sprint, pass, receive, and shoot the ball. You have to use drills that help to improve the ability of the players to sprint at full speed for short distances. You can effectively achieve this by incorporating a perfect combination of anaerobic power (sprinting) and aerobic conditioning (i.e. distance running).
Some Important Points For The Coaches
Soccer is an unpredictable game and soccer speed training is about quick anticipation of the actions of the opponent players and making instant decision based on that.
Encourage the players to read the minds of other teammates and understand their characteristics, such as how they like to receive the ball, etc.
Teach the players on how to be quick on the feet and change direction.
Encourage players to make their own decisions. Tell them there is no such thing as a wrong decision. Even if a decision does not work, it teaches the players a new thing.
While you are developing drills, try to make it as 'game related' as possible. You just have to focus on to developing it in a way that requires more footwork - something that the players will come across in a real game.
Soccer training speed and strength drills that require players to make short bursts are good, but you should also make sure that the drills also require the players travel the distance as well.
You can use ladders and hurdles in order to develop running techniques and allow the players to do sprints.
Whatever is your method, make sure that the speed training is not exhausting for the players. Some Speed Drills
When it is about speed training for soccer players, you can develop several speed drills by using speed ladders. Some simple drills may include the following.
Ask the players to practice side steps in and out of the side of the ladder.
Have your players practice to bound from one section to another.
You may also ask them to practice high-knee running. However, make sure such running is recommended with very short strides.
You must focus on quality and form. It is better if you allow a slow jog or walk between different soccer training speed and strength drills.
