Footwork Soccer: The Zigzag Method

The zigzag method is one of the most effective ways to improve the footwork soccer skills of your players. In this drill, the coach has to use sticks and cones or flags as marker.

You will have to make sure that the distance between the beginning of the course and the first zigzag marker, between each of the zigzag markers, and between the final zigzag marker and the end of the course must not be less than 5 yards.

Now, have two players start the game. The players have to sprint to the each marker and while they do so, it should be mandatory for them to touch the marker with the side of their foot.

After a quick session using this method, you can now proceed and make things a little more complicated for the players.

For example, once you find some improvement in the footwork soccer skills of the players, you can increase the distance of 5 yards to 6 yards and so on.

This will make the players a bit more difficult because they will now have to turn at angles that are more acute.

This soccer footwork drill is quite effective especially in teaching youth soccer players about how to change feet direction quickly even at acute angles.

Footwork Soccer Drills

Some coaches, especially those who are new to the field of youth soccer coaching, do not give much attention on the footwork soccer drills. They are the coaches who take youth soccer coaching lightly.

They do not know that it is harder to manage a team of young players than a team of adult ones. Therefore, if you are on your way to become an expert coach, make sure that you focus on each and every aspect of the youth soccer coaching. Take, for example the footwork soccer.

You need to teach your players using the feet quickly to get control of the ball depends mainly on quick and supple hips. Once the players get the clear objective of the footwork soccer, it will become much easier for them to practice the footwork soccer drills and learn the desired skills.

Therefore, you must be very impressive in conveying the message to the players that if the players want to improve their footwork soccer skills, they will have to work hard in controlling and positioning their centre of gravity.

What is more, you also have to teach them that in order to achieve the optimum result in this regard, the players must know how to distribute the weight of their body as - about twenty-five percent to the rear foot and seventy-five percent to the forefoot.
