More About 5 vs 5 Indoor Soccer

5v5 indoor soccer is a small sided game which is a style of play that includes 5 players in a team at one time. This game is for the U-8 category of players. It also includes a goalkeeper unlike a 4v4 game which does not have any goalkeeper. The main concern of the coach here is the safety of the players coupled with enjoyment. Other formations also include the 6v6 formations and 7 v 7 soccer formations.

A registered referee, the coach or even a parent can monitor a 5v5 indoor soccer game. Let us review some of the rules regarding the 5v5 soccer game. These rules hold good for the 6 on 6 soccer formations and the other formations as well.

Rules Of 5v5 Soccer Formation

  • The kick off can be played backwards from the center point at the beginning of the game and after each goal. This would ensure the possession of the ball.
  • All the players have to remain in their own half of the field until the ball is kicked.
  • Any amount of substitution is allowed prior to the kick in. The teams can substitute players after a goal and before the kick in.
  • A team cannot place any player at the opponent's goal and the offside rule does not apply to the game.
  • The players can side play if there is no danger of any injury involved. Side tackling is strictly a no-no.
  • The game is restarted by a corner kick by the attacking player whenever a ball crosses the goal line and is last touched by the defender.
  • If the ball leaves the field of play then the game shall be restarted with a throw in from where the ball left.
  • If there is a goal then the ball is restarted from the center of the field.
  • There are no penalty kicks.
  • The game is restarted with a goal kick when it crosses the goal line and was last touched by an attacker.
  • The ball should be touched by another team member which means that all restarts are indirect kicks and the opponent must be at least 4 yards away from the ball.

Scoring Opportunities In A 5v5 Formation

  • When an attacking player is fouled.
  • A defender stops the ball from entering the goal.

The code of conduct of a 5v5 soccer formation says that any player who deliberately tries to injure an opponent or breaks the rules of the game would be removed from the field. Only the referee can allow the player to reenter after the cooling off period. 5v5 indoor soccer games can give the players more opportunities with the ball. This would in turn help the players to recognize the strategic situations and react accordingly.
