Use Of Diagram Of Soccer Formations

Diagram of soccer formations are widely used to explain the different positions and formations to the players. The soccer formation diagrams describe the different ways in which the players can be placed on the field during the various formations.

Terminology Used In Diagram Of Soccer Formations

• R stands for right
• C stands for center
• L stands for left
• FB stands for Fullback
• MF is the Midfielder
• F is the Forward
• Gk is the Goalkeeper
• OMF is the Offensive Midfielder
• DMF is the Defensive Midfielder

There are four different positions in the diagram of football formations. These are the Forwards, Midfielders, Defenders and the Goalkeeper.

An Insight Into The Different Positions

• The Forwards are the players who are placed near the goal of the opponent team. The other players pass the Forwards the ball and it is the Forwards' task to make a goal with the ball. The primary task of the Forwards is to score goals. These players need to be physically very strong in order to carry out this job.

• Midfielders can be between three to six in a team. The objective of the Midfielders is to gain control of the ball and pass it on to the Forwards to score goals for the team. These players, most of the time, play in the middle of the field.

• There are between three to five Defenders in a team. These players are placed near their own goal post. Their main task is to save the goals of the opponent's team. They are also required to take the ball from the goalkeeper and pass it to the Midfielder.

Some Other Terms Used In Soccer Formation Diagrams

• Center of the field- is the area between the two goals. It is here that the Center Fullback, Center Midfielder and the Center Forward play. You may or may not have the center positions in the game depending upon the soccer formation being used.

• Middle of the field- is the area that has the half-line on it. Middle of the center depicts the same thing in soccer formation diagrams.

• Attacking third- is that part of the field which is the closest to the opponent's goal. When any team attacks, it is the job of the Forwards or the Midfielders to get the ball into the attacking third.

• Middle Third- includes the Half line and the Center circle.

• Defensive Third- is the third of the field that includes the goal.

All in all, using diagrams of soccer formation prove a very important tool to teach the different aspects of the game to the players.
