Goalkeeper - There is only one goalkeeper or "goalie" per team. A goalkeeper defends the team's goal. He has to compulsorily wear a different jersey and stay within the penalty box.
Defenders - Defenders are also called fullbacks. A soccer team has usually 3 to 4 defenders.
Midfielders - Midfielders play in the middle of the field for most of the time, but run the entire length of the field. A soccer team has usually two to four midfielders. They play a very critical role during a game by passing the ball from the defenders to the strikers.
Forwards - The role of the forwards is offense and to strike goals for the team. Hence, they are, more often than not the star players of the squad.
