Positions In Soccer - The 4-4-2 Equation

When it comes to positions in soccer, there can be different team equations. The oldest format is 4-3-3 . The most used team formation is 4-4-2 . However, the most recent team equation is 3-5-2 . However, higher levels of competitors, such as professional or collegiate teams, basically use this formation. When it comes to the most trusted team equation for the young players above the age of seven years, the 4-4-2 format is perhaps the best. The equation is self-explanatory; it consists of four defenders, four midfielders and two attackers. The eleventh player is the goalie.

Does This Formation Limit Scoring?

In the first stance, these positions in soccer look like a weak formation in terms of scoring goals, as there are only two attacking players. However, in reality, this type of team formation does not actually limit scoring. When you closely examine this team formation, you will find that in the offensive attack, the forwards are not the only active players. The midfielders and the outside defenders are in fact more active when it comes to attacking and scoring goals. This way, when it comes to kids soccer and field positions, the team equation of 4-4-2 actually results in more opportunities to score goals.

Defenders

The defenders as per this equation play in the diamond formation. There are different ways that they can use to play their game. For example, three of them can play flat across the field. In this case, the sweeper hangs behind in the middle. The main responsibility of the sweeper is to defend the mistakes made by the forwards or the midfielders. In an attempt for recreational soccer positions, you can also have them play in an arc shape. In this case, there are two sweepers and no stoppers. Midfielders

Among the four midfielders, you have the right and left midfielders and two others. The two other players become an offensive and defensive duo. The task of the offensive and defensive duo is to hold the middle of the field in order to have better control of the game.

Forwards

When it comes to positions in soccer , the two forwards have a very unique job. They must work together in close co-operation with the four midfielders. Their main mission is to score goals and make sure they also help in defensive tasks when the team does not have possession of the ball.
