Different Soccer Defensive Strategies

Teaching soccer defensive strategies is very important when it concerns coaching young players. It is very important for you to understand that the success or failure of the defenders depends upon the efficiency of these strategies.

Good Defensive Body Posture

When it comes to teaching soccer defensive strategies to young players, one of the most important things that you need to teach is a good defensive posture. The body posture plays a very crucial role in determining the efficiency of the defense.

In order to have your players understand the importance of good body posture for effective football tactics for defense, you can start by explaining the tasks and responsibilities of the nearest defensive player to the ball.

These defenders are usually termed as first defenders. The primary responsibility of the first defenders is to put instant pressure on the opponent player who is carrying the ball.

You have to train these players in a way that they are able to turn the opponent player away from the danger areas on the field. The danger areas are the ones that allow a good opportunity for the opponent player to score a goal.

It is very important for you to have your players understand that in order to achieve good soccer defensive tactics, good defensive posture along with good mobility is essential.

How To Train Your Players To Help Them Achieve A Good Defensive Posture

There is a wide array of exercises that you can use to help your players achieve a good defensive posture so that they could work on better soccer defensive strategies . Let me share with a simple exercise in this regard.

You can start with dividing all your players in groups of two. The players have to run around or dribble around the field or a specific grid. The objective is to tag the players' knees.

Each time, a player is able to tag another player he/she gets a point. The game has to be fast and non-stop. It can be one of the best soccer tactics for a stopper. While the players are busy playing the game, you have to focus on their body movements.

For example, when they attempt tagging another player, you must ensure the following soccer defensive strategies .

  • They must be able to shuffle quickly
  • Their chest should lean over their toes
  • And most importantly, their knees must be bent on the balls of their feet.
In order to make the task easier for the young players, you are recommended to have soccer defence demonstrations.
