Soccer Rules: Scoring More
While you are explaining the soccer rules to the young players, you will have to make sure that the way you are explaining is concise, clear, and to the point.
You can start with the first and the simplest rule of soccer that the team who scores more goals wins. Here, you may like to emphasise that it is not the player who score more goals wins – it is the team, not the player.
Such explanation will encourage your players to play as a team first. Another important thing in soccer rules is the various positions of the team.
You must explain them about the role and importance of the defenders, midfielders, forwards, and the soccer goalie of course.
As a youth soccer coach and while explaining about these positions, you may also like to make it clear that the players will be assigned specific roles by the coach and they have to play accordingly.
However, it is not mandatory. You have to train your players in a way, to perform at all positions, because soccer is a game, where things change very quickly and the players have to take instant decision.
The defender might find an opportunity during the game to score a goal. It does not mean that he or she should lose this opportunity, just because he or she is defender and not the forward.Soccer Rules Must Be Followed Religiously
The soccer rules are meant to be followed religiously by the players, and it is the duty of the coach to make their players aware of all the rules. But again, being aware of the rules and following the same are two different things.
The young players are usually attracted towards the foul play and they confuse aggression with playing foul. As a coach, it is a challenge for you to encourage your players to follow the soccer rules religiously; because that is the only way they can win matches.
Foul play may result in red card for the players, which is not good for soccer. You have to convey the message to your players that soccer is all about winning matches and that must be done using a fair play, following all the soccer rules. However, at the same time, you should always keep in mind that you are not coaching professionals.
You are coaching young players, who have to go a long way to become a successful professional player. Therefore, make sure that you design your specific soccer drills and practice games in a logical manner. Things must be in accordance with the age and physical ability of the players.
