When the players are taught this rule, they will learn to stick by it, thus helping themselves avoid committing fouls. When a foul is committed, the members from the opposite team are awarded free kicks.

These kicks can be direct or indirect kicks depending on the severity of the foul. As per the soccer kickoff rule, any player from the team can take the kick and the kick is awarded from the place where the foul was committed.
