Summary Of New Rules Of Soccer
With the evolution of the game, new rules of soccer are introduced at regular intervals. The soccer rules regulations were formed in 1886 and have not changed drastically. However, they have been modified and have taken a changed shape in order to meet the demands of the game.
These new rules for football are further revised annually by FIFA usually in the month of July. It is important for all the players to be abreast with the latest rules so as to understand the game both infield and out of the field equally well.
The Changed Rules
Have soccer rules changed? If this is the question going on in your mind, here is a summary of a few rules that have changed in recent times.
- Beginning with the fall 2008 season, the soccer rules change for shin guards are that they must meet the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) specifications in terms of material, shape, etc.
- Till the last season the first caution (yellow card) for an illegally equipped player was issued to the coach. However, as per new rules of soccer, all subsequent cautions for illegally equipped players will be issue directly to the players and not the coach. The coach is responsible for his or her players to be properly and legally equipped.
- Issue of sportsmanship is to be addressed by the head referee during the pre-game conference with the head coach and team captains. At this conference, the referee will inquire from the coach about proper and legal equipment of the players.
- The committee altered the rule regarding the allowable width of fields keeping in view the involvement of several college and professional fields. Maximum width was expanded from 75 yards to 80 yards.
- Regulation of usage of portable goals was introduced. These goals should be anchored at least 2 yards in front of the base line of the existing football goal posts.
- New rules of football over the yellow card issue is that a player given a second yellow card of the competition in the semi-finals is not suspended for the finals, if his team qualifies. Earlier if a player picks up a yellow card in quarter-final and semi-final, he was always suspended for the finals.
- Other points of emphasis are team benches, knee braces, game management, pre-game responsibilities and handling.
Conclusion
You will see the evolution of the game into something even more competitive as time goes by. This is the story behind the development of new rules of soccer.
