Soccer Rules For Kids Made Easy

The game of soccer might confuse you when it comes to soccer rules for kids . But, they are easy to understand and follow. They have been designed keeping in mind the strength, kicking power, understanding, and capability of children. Rules of children soccer thus are easy to understand and follow on the field. A gist of important rules and their explanations are given below.

Hands Or No Hands

In kids soccer rule, hands mean any part from the tips of the fingers to the shoulder. Before blowing the whistle, a referee needs to know if it is ball to hand (legal) or hand to ball (illegal).

No Hands For Goalkeeper

Soccer rules for kids create a situation in which even the goalie cannot use hands. When a teammate passes back to goalkeeper, he/she can only use feet, else the opponents will be offered an indirect kick from the point of infraction.

Equipment

List of basic equipment as given in youth football rules are: -

Kick-Offs

Kick-offs are used to start or restart the game. Ball is placed at the center of the field and players stand in their respective halves. Taking a kick-off must be atleast 10 yards from the ball.

Throw-Ins

When the ball crosses the side-line and is out of play, it is brought back in play by a throw-in.

Corner And Goal Kicks

When the ball is out of play via goal line, a corner or a goal kick starts the play again. If the offensive team touches the ball last, a goal kick else a corner kick is offered to the opponents.

Direct And Indirect Free Kicks

Direct and indirect kicks are the ways to restart the play, once the referee stops the play due to infraction. For both, the ball must be stationary and the opposing player standing at a distance as given in youth football rules.

Penalty Kicks

If a contact foul or a handball takes place involving a defender within penalty area, a penalty kick is awarded to the opponent. This is similar to direct kick.

Two Touch Rule

While bringing ball back into play, no player can touch the ball twice. This applies to both kick-offs and throw-ins. Exception - drop ball (restart).

Offside Soccer Rule

This rule is complex but must be maintained at its simplest best by referee. In all the soccer rules for kids , distance varies with age.
