How To Kick A Football Soccer Style And Improve Accuracy

Nowadays, the most widely used kicking style for football is the soccer style. Hence, if you are coaching beginners, you should try to teach them how to kick a football soccer style perfectly. Before going further to know about how to kick in football with style, let us first look at the type of kicks used in a football game.

Kicking Styles Used In The Game Of Football

There Are Three Main Styles Of Kicking In Football

•  Straight on style.

•  Soccer style.

•  Drop kick style.

While the straight on and drop kick styles are used occasionally, the soccer style kick is widely used for kicking field goals. It is important for a player today to learn how to kick soccer style as it improves the accuracy of the place kicker largely.

Steps To Learn How To Kick A Football Soccer Style

1.  Lining up: Firstly, place the ball on the tee and starting from exactly behind the ball, take three steps straight backwards. Then take two side steps to the left if your kicking leg is right or to the right if you are using your left. Now you will be in a 30 degrees angle to the ball and your body should face the ball instead of the goalposts. Now putting your planting foot in the front, stand a bit leaning forward with your knees bent slightly. This is the starting position.

2.  Stutter step: This step is to start your forward movement towards the ball. Bending your body a little bit from your waist, move your planting foot a few inches forward.

3.  Torque step: Now use your kicking foot to step forward. As your kicking foot touches the ground, you should be leaning forward with the weight of your body on the inside of the kicking foot.

4.  Drive step: Start with pushing off hard from your kicking foot. Place your planting leg 10 to 12 inches side of the ball with your toes pointing the direction of the target and your head should be looking down at the ball.

5.  Impact: Now keep your kicking ankle slightly locked and strike the ball at its sweet spot from the part of the foot that is covered with shoe laces. After kicking, your leg should follow through in order to advance the ball directly to the target.

6.  Follow through: After contacting the ball, the momentum will carry you towards the target and it may cause you to slight hop on to your planting foot.
