Things To Do At An Under 7 Soccer Training Session

By Andre Botelho (SoccerDrillsTips.com)

There are plenty of things to do at an under 7 soccer training session since the players are very young. When coaching soccer to them, you have to be aware that while they do know that they play soccer with a ball, and will be most eager to run around, it will take a little longer for them to pick up the skills of the game in terms of technique.

You have to bear in mind that your under 7 players will only grasp the concept of space and field movement when they are put through several under 7 soccer drill diagrams and practice sessions and become comfortable with the ball. Obviously, at this age, their aim is to have fun with the ball, and it is up to you to design training sessions that will develop them.

When a youth soccer drill, at the very first session, your under 7 players will simply go after the ball in a swarm. While some will manage to trap the ball the others will follow it. Eventually you will be able to discern the various skills of the players and be able to get them to build on their talent.

  • A Sample Plan For Under 7 Players

Just to get these young players in the mood, you can plan for a short warm up session so that they are geared to the practice. You can do this both using a ball and without using one. For example, you could throw the ball and ask your players to run after it and bring it back.

Introduce variations where they use various parts of the body as specified by you to bring the ball back. Once this goes on for a little while, have your players do some stretching exercises with the help of the ball.

When it comes to youth soccer training, you must demonstrate how to dribble the ball to your players. Then you can have activities where you can keep your players on the move as you introduce simple games to them where rather than making players ‘out’ you group them and keep them as part of the team.

At some point, one of the things to do at an under 7 soccer training is to let them actually play soccer, in the form of small-sided games so that you can encourage them to be creative with what you want them to do. At the end of the session, do not forget the cooling down with some jogging and light stretching.
