Soccer Goalie Drills – Training Tips
Soccer goalie drills are the primary concern of any soccer coach. It is the only position in soccer which allows touching of the ball, both by the hands and arms. The goalies skills have to be honed in such a manner that he proves advantageous for the other players of his team. The training of the goal keeper is both challenging and unique. Depending on the style of play, a soccer keeper is the first line of offence and the last line of defense.
Tips On Football Goalie Training
Training a goalkeeper demands lots of physical activities.
Keep the goalie's mental state in mind.
A striker can also be a very good keeper.
Train him to stay balanced and tell him to always keep the center of gravity of the body in mind.
Try to pick a tall goalkeeper, as he would have an added advantage of having long and big hands.
Make the goalkeeper do the regular warm ups with the team and then make him move away to practice his specific drills and soccer exercises.
Motivate your goalkeeper on a regular basis.
Ensure that your goal keeper has a dominant personality as he is the leader of the team. They should get their due respect from the team and should be allowed to demonstrate their vocal capacity. Soccer goalie drills require the keeper to be trained in such a manner that his body is always behind the ball. Train him to take tons of dives on dirt. Though it may hurt a little, it will give him lots of confidence. Have the teammate blast some balls at the goalie. Train him to take falls and rolls, but not let the ball touch the net.
Soccer goal keeper training would require practice to sprawl out as much as he can. His body should cover as much area as possible. Help him build his leg muscle and make him practice stretching as much as possible. Football goalkeeper practice would also include fast running for sprints. All this will improve the reaction time of the goalie and decrease the recovery time for injuries.
Your goalkeeper should be in his best of physical and mental fitness. Share as much knowledge and experiences as you can with your goalie. Train him enough so that he is always ready on his toes and can dive whenever required. Soccer goalie drills require a well balanced approach to the game. Train the keeper enough, so that he can focus and stay calm even under tremendous pressure. The performance of the goalie will directly affect the team's performance.
