Finishing Soccer Drills – Penalty Soccer Training

Posted on March 30, 2021March 30, 2021 By soccerdrillstips

Finishing soccer drills and penalty soccer training should be part of soccer training for every age group. Penalty kick has become an important part of soccer today. Sometimes games are won on the basis of penalty kicks. There are lots of examples to consider. In 1982, West Germany defeated France due to penalty shootout. That game is remembered as the first World Cup game that was decided on the basis of a penalty shootout. In 1990 World Cup semifinal, England lost because of penalty shootouts.

Importance Of Penalty Kick

There are plenty of more examples. The point that I am trying to make is that it is very important to provide penalty soccer training to your players. Penalty kick is the only time during which soccer becomes a one on one game. For the penalty kick training it is important to teach your players not only how to kick the ball effectively but also how to study the mind of the goalie.

Finishing Soccer dDrills – Tips

There are few coaching tips that are helpful for soccer shot trainer:

  • Know where you are going to hit the ball and do not change your mind after that. Do not stare at the point, as the goalie would realize where you are going to kick the ball.
  • Teach your players how to effectively kick the ball under the goal. The point is to keep the ball on the ground because that way you will have better chance of scoring.
  • To keep the ball on the ground you can apply the following strategy- keep your knee and head over the ball, lock your ankle and then strike the ball with your laces.
  • Teach how to effectively aim at the two bottom corners of the goal post.
  • An effective method of teaching penalty kicks is by using a smaller goal post. Place a Kwik goal post in the center of your 8′ × 24′. The goal is to shoot in the larger goal. Those shots that go in the larger goal and miss the small goal will count. The more your players practice, the better they will get at the penalty kick.

As a coach, you need to incorporate in your soccer power training practice plans drills that focus on penalty kicks. If you are a youth soccer coach, you can always encourage the kids to also practice in their backyard if they have enough space. Have them practice penalty shots with both their feet one at a time.

If you give equal importance to Finishing soccer drills and penalty soccer training, your players will appreciate your approach.
